Mr. Kernan began his insurance career as a personal lines assistant for a small agency in California. Eventually, he became an Account Representative for Alexander and Alexander (California) for large commercial lines accounts.
Upon return to Illinois in 1989, he became an agent and began selling primarily commercial accounts. He has built his client basis developing a niche within the home health care industry as the result of his mother owning a home health care agency. He branched further into the medical professions of nurse staffing agencies, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and medical malpractice insurance for physicians.
Mr. Kernan graduated from the University of Illinois and holds the industry designation of Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC). He has attended classes in the Certified Risk Manager (CRM) program.
He resides with his two teenage children in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
